Greetings Open Mikers and potential Open Mikers! GREAT NEWS ...the new OMNI center is putting down floors this Saturday and it looks like we will be hosting the FIRST of many OPEN MICs for Peace, Justice and Ecology in the new Omni Center on Sunday Nov. 1st at 7:00 pm. WE ARE SO EXCITED. The new Omni Center is 3274 Lee Ave, (See Google map below) Look for the brick house with the burgundy awnings. Let's make this first one a HAPPENING and give everyone a chance to experience our NEW HOME! It's a great space with plenty of parking. SPREAD THE WORD and BRING A FRIEND or two or three! We will be hosting this month (Still on the Hill). FYI...the Open Mic is the FIRST SUNDAY OF EACH MONTH (except in July and August...we take off for the summer). Songs (original or covers) and Poems with a theme of PEACE, JUSTICE and ECOLOGY are encouraged. You can also just come and LISTEN...it is a circle...this music making stuff....we need pickers, singers and ENJOYERS! We are a community. Happy Autumn Donna & Kelly and the WHOLE Omni Crewe

The Omni Center's Open Mic for Peace, Justice and Ecology is back for the 2008 season. Now in it's 7th year, the event will take place Sunday, October 5th, 7:00 at NIGHT BIRD BOOKS in Fayetteville (School and 6th street). The show will start with a reading from one of our long time contributors, Jay Ross, who has released a book of poems on the Peace and Justice theme. After the reading, it will be open to all with a song, poem, or reading that promote peace, justice or ecology. The event is free to the public. For more info, call Donna and Kelly at 479-582-2291.

On Sunday, May 4, at 6:30p.m., the Omni Center for peace will sponsor an Open Mic for Peace at Nightbird Books at 557 South School Ave, #103 in Fayetteville. Please note that the organizers plan to hold the Open Mic for Peace Nightbird Books for the forseeable future. The Omni Open Mic for Peace is held the first Sunday of each month from September to May. If you would be interested in being a host for this or some future Open Mic, please call Donna Stjerna and Kelly Mulhollan at at 479-582-2291 or at stillonthehill @ sbcglobal.net

The following is a message from Open Mic for Peace founders Donna and Kelly:

"Because of the Open Mic, many songwriters in the area have turned their pens to creating songs of substance about local and world issues. Three years ago Omni released a compilation CD and songbook with 19 area songwriters on it and it received national attention.

One of the artists on this project was singer/songwriter Duane Carr. Duane's delivery is deep and heartfelt, reminiscent of the legendary Tom Paxton. Duane has just finished his second CD of Peace songs. All the proceeds from both his CD's goes to the Omni Center.

This forum is for musicians, poets and songwriters to perform and share their thoughts about Peace, Justice and Ecology. There is a sign up sheet and each person starts with one piece (or 5 minutes) and if time allows we can go another round, but usually there are so many great offerings that once around is all we have time for. Starting time is 7:00 pm. Everyone is welcome.

In the 60's the Deep End Coffeehouse was a venue for many of the great songwriter activists such as Joan Baez and Peter, Paul and Mary. In the past 6 years this Open Mic has reclaimed that status. Because of the Open Mic, many songwriters in the area have turned their pens to creating songs of substance about local and world issues. 3 years ago Omni released a compilation CD and songbook with 19 area songwriters on it and it received national attention.

There will be plenty of room for everyone to share, so bring a guitar, a song, a poem, a friend and join us for a special evening music that motivates and heals!

There will be coffee, tea, juice and cookies....treats are welcome if you want to bring a goodie to share. See you there."
